The highest quality goldsmithing
A delicate 18-karat gold bar separates the six tiny colour fields so that the cold enamel colours do not run together when applied. The colours are then filled in by hand in several layers in sequence right up to the bar and repeatedly dried. Finally the Wellendorff goldsmiths apply a transparent layer of cold enamel across all the bars. This creates surface tension over the entire colour field, which makes the surface of the earrings soft and smooth and intensifies the colours. The highly polished base layer of the colourful cold-enamel planes also reflects light like a crystal, allowing the colours of the rainbow created by the earrings to shine from within.
